Throw a Pokemon party

Do your little ones love to follow the adventures of Pikachu and Ash? Maybe they love to watch the TV show, play the video game, or trade the cards? Then throw them a unique party with Pokemon Party Ideas! We have ideas for everything from invitations to activities that will make it as easy as possible to plan the perfect children’s party

Pokemon Party Planning & Invitations

Your first decision will be where to host your Pokemon Party. If you host the party at your own home, you can be a little more creative with decorations, activities, and food that fit your theme. However, many choose to host the party in a different location, such as a restaurant or recreation center. For a Pokemon Party, you may want to base your location on your child’s favourite Pokemon product. If he or she loves the video game, hold the party at an arcade. If your child is more into the movie, attending the movie theatre or renting a projector and watching the movie outdoors might be more fun.

 

Basic party supplies include tableware, such as plates, napkins, cups, and cutlery, as well as a tablecloth, streamers, and balloons. You can stick with the basics, or add other items to fit your theme. For example, for a Pokemon Party, you may also want to consider renting or purchasing the following:

 

  • Pokemon Trading Cards

  • Pokemon DVD, Video Game, or Board Game

  • Pokemon Masks

 

If you have the time to make your own invitations, here are a few ideas to consider:

 

  • Draw your child’s favourite Pokemon character on the front of a side-fold card. If drawing isn’t your strong suit, cut his or her favourite character out of a coloring book and paste it on the front of the card. Write all the party details inside and decorate with Pokemon stickers.

  • Give each guest a Pokemon identity to assume at the party! Let them know who their chosen character is by pasting that image on the front of their invitation. Write “You are invited to [birthday child’s name]’s Pokemon Party… And You Have Been Chosen to Come as [character name]!!” on the inside of the card, along with the rest of the party details. Send your invitations with a name badge and an identifying costume accessory (such as Pikachu’s ears or Ash’s cap) to wear to the party.

  • Cut round circles out of white card and colour half of the circle red to resemble a pokeball. Draw on the details with black and silver marker. In the white space, write the party information. For a different take on this, purchase foam balls at the craft store and colour one half red. Write the party details on the white portion of the ball and hand-deliver to your guests.

    Pokemon Party Favours

Put a smile on your guests’ faces by sending them home with party favours that fit your theme. You could give one large favour, such as a Pokemon DVD or game, a Pokemon backpack, or movie tickets; or combine smaller favours such as wrist bands, sweets, stickers, and Pokemon cards in a nice favour bag.

Minecraft is a great children’s party theme, with tons of opportunities to make your Minecraft party shine. With such a blocky style, it’s easy to build your party area into a one of a kind world for your birthday gamer.

Personalisation

Personalise your party to show off the special day you are celebrating. Customize messages on invites, labels, activity mats, bag tags and more.

Decorations

Minecraft is a world made of coloured blocks so your decor will mostly contain square-shapes. In the game, there are many different worlds you can create and explore, so getting an idea of which worlds you’d like to include in your party will help you tackle the decor aspect much easier. Whether it’s snow, desert, water, grass, or sand, you’ll find some great tips to throwing a one-of-a-kind Minecraft party in your home or outside.

 

  • You can coordinate solid blue, green, and black tableware and decorations with Minecraft brand elements to pull the whole look together.

  • Make a Minecraft party backdrop by taking square shaped paper plates and sticking them to the wall with sticky tack or non-damaging tape.

  • Use our stone wall backdrop to set the scene.

  • Take or make cubed cardboard boxes and cover with duct tape, construction paper, or tissue paper grass. Poke two small holes in the top and hang them from the ceiling with fishing line.

    Party Favours

Party favours are a part of the party fun, and with a Minecraft themed party, you’ve got lots of options to choose from. You can even make it a personalised gift, with either a themed name tag or another individual character. Carry your theme through your party favours to make it feel complete.

 

  • Use coloured paper bags or boxes and glue or draw Creeper, Golem, or Ghast faces on them.

  • Fill smartie tubes with red, green, and blue bubblegum labelled as “TNT,” “Diamonds,” or “Slimeballs.”

  • Small blind bags of Minecraft collectables also make great favours.

  • Make your own Minecraft boxes to fill with small favour items with this simple template.

  • For older children party poppers labelled TNT make a great party favour as well!

  • Paint or tape Creeper faces on lime green buckets so your attendees can take a character from Minecraft home!

    Party Games and Activities

While your party is in full swing, throw in some fun activities and games to keep the energy going. Keep the hands busy after meal time by having stations or times for different games.

 

  • Make a cookie decorating station for dessert. Use these Minecraft cookie cutters to make a batch of sugar cookies in advance.

  • With adult supervision, have kids make mini swords or Minecraft characters out of Hama beads.

  • Pinatas are a party classic, and making your own Ghast Pinata isn’t too hard!

  • Pin the tail on the pig is another fun game you can make incredibly easily with construction paper, scissors, and tape!

  • If you’re feeling extra handy, make a Minecraft beanbag toss with cutouts like a Creeper face.

  • Set up a photobooth with a few props. Like these Minecraft masks, and swords in front of a stone wall covering.

    DIY Crafts

Minecraft is all about building a world, so why not include some building creativity during the party? Having the kids (and adults) create a make-and-take craft is a great  way to keep them entertained and add one more keepsake to the pile of party favours

.

  • Duct tape bracelets are a fun craft that’s quick and easy!

  • Pick up some inexpensive blank T-shirts and have the party attendees make their own Minecraft shirts use heat transfer vinyl or fabric paint.

  • With a little pre-planning, you can make some fantastic Minecraft creatures from simple items such as toilet paper rolls and small boxes.

Shopkins are the hottest toys right now and quickly becoming the most popular children’s birthday party theme for girls. What is great about a Shopkins themed party is that there are so many options and ways to incorporate a lot of characters.

Shopkins Party Decorations

Crepe paper streamers are great crepe paper streamer tassels are even better! They are really easy to create and can be made well in advance of your party. One of the best things about these is that you can choose all your own colours, unlike many of the packaged tassels where colors are limited.

Paper lanterns don’t always have to be hung. Use them to add colour and dimension to the bottom of your tablescape which can help complete the overall look.

Decals are not just for walls! Mount the vinyl decals onto foam board and cut around the image. You can place the mounted decals on the wall, on the table, or on the floor as shown above. Once the party is over, carefully peel the decal from the foam board and use to decorate the birthday girl’s room.

Shopkins Party Food

There are so many foods to choose from within the Shopkins theme. Poppy Corn is one of the most recognizable characters so you can serve popcorn in a popcorn box made to look like her.

You can search through the list of Shopkins and find more food to feature. What makes Shopkins so appealing to kids is that they are small, cute, and collectible.

Shopkins Activities & Favours

Create a small shopping area on your table and let your guests go shopping! Here are some fun ideas for your shop:

  • Purple boxes decorated with pink ribbon looks like Miss Pressy

  • Bubble Gum scented nail polish looks just like Polly Polish

The great thing about this activity is that once your guests have loaded up their Shopkins shopping bags, they are ready to leave with favours in hand. Of course another big hit is the photo booth. The Shopkins photo props are such fun and your guests will love them. They could easily double as favours as well. If you want to create an additional activity you can play Who Am I? with the props.

Hand each guest a prop but tell them not to look. Have them hold it up and ask the others questions about who they are. Whoever guesses who she is in the fewest amount of questions wins!

1. The Guards Museum, London

Adult: £6, Children: Free

Everyday around 11.30am the Changing of the Guards ceremony happens outside Buckingham Palace (this is FREE to watch!!). The guards who protect the Sovereign have carried out this duty since 1660 and during the ceremony you will see a regiment march from Wellington Barracks to Buckingham Palace to take over the guard. This ceremony takes place every day from April- July and on alternate days throughout the rest of the year (weather permitting). Afterwards pay a visit to the Guards Museum for an enjoyable and educational visit. You can learn all about the various regiments and at the end you might even get to try on a bear skin!

2. Illuminasia, Blackpool

Merseyside Maritime Museum

 

Merseyside Maritime Museum is a fantastic day out with the family! Here you’ll find a fascinating array of different exhibitions displaying Liverpool’s maritime history. There will always be lots to see and do as they regularly have activities and workshops for families. There’s also a ‘Sea Urchins’ play area for kids under the age of 8!

The World Museum

The World Museum has world-class shows and displays, including the Planetarium and Aquarium to the fascinating Clore Natural History Centre. You will find lots of exciting objects including Egyptian mummies, Samurai armour, casts of dinosaur bones, meteorites and many more treasures. Throughout the year they have many family events and many different temporary exhibitions so keep an eye on their regularly updated calendar!

Tate Liverpool

Tate Liverpool has many exhibitions displaying various artists and their work. There is a lot to offer visiting families, including events and workshops! You can make your way around the gallery at your own pace and start wherever you want.

Sefton Park

This beautiful park has some great facilities for all of the family to enjoy. There’s lots to explore, including the Grade 2 listed Palm House, fountain, grotto, boating lake, fairy glen and lots more! There’s a playground for the children to let off some steam and plenty of walkways ready to be explored.

The Bluecoat

The Bluecoat, known as Liverpool’s creative hub, is home to an array of art, theatre, music, dance and lots more! It is the most historic building in Liverpool and hosts many temporary exhibitions. It caters for families, offering creative activities every Saturday so your little budding artists can make their very own pieces of art.

Liverpool Central Library

This imposing historic building has been thoroughly modernised and is a fantastic place to bring the family! There is a children’s room where you will find brightly coloured interiors with lots of books and hidey holes. There are excellent facilities including an Xbox 360, computers, iPads and lots more.

Walker Art Gallery

Walker Art Gallery is a great place to bring the family on a day out! They offer an array of activities including the Big Art for Little Artists gallery, which can be found on the ground floor. There are often events and workshops taking place, which kids can get involved in.

Liverpool World Heritage Site

The port area of Liverpool is listed as a World Heritage Site, which stretches along the waterfront. In the Pier Head area you’ll find the grand historic buildings of The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool building. There’s also the modern building of the Museum of Liverpool (free entry) and the chance to watch narrow boats pass through the Canal Link. You will also find the modern district, Mann Island, where there are restaurants galleries and cafes.

Library of Birmingham; Birmingham

This huge, modern building is home to over 400,000 books available to be read by the public, as well as a studio theatre, rooftop gardens, an outdoor Amphitheatre and a panoramic viewing gallery. Children will love exploring the children’s zones, listening to story telling sessions and getting involved in kids’ activities!

The Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre; Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire

Located in the very place that Roald Dahl lived and wrote is the wonderful Roald Dahl museum! Aimed at children aged between 6 and 12, it features galleries, a story centre and loads of interactive displays all around this much loved children’s author.

Liverpool Central Library; Liverpool

Inside this very large, historic building is a modern discovery that the whole family will love! Inside the children’s room you will find brightly coloured interiors brimming with books and nooks to read in. There is even an Xbox 360, computers, iPad and more technology available to the public!
